Privacy

The short version: no account, no personal details, no IP addresses, no advertising networks. One cookie holding a random number, and counts of which pages and picks get used.

The cookie

ValentineWish.com sets one first-party cookie, vw_vid. It holds a random identifier and nothing else — no name, no email, nothing that identifies you. It lets me count a returning visitor as one person rather than two, and it lasts a year.

Blocking or deleting it costs you nothing. Every part of the site works without it. There is no advertising cookie, no tracking pixel and no third-party analytics script on any page.

What gets recorded

When you use the site, these are written to my own database:

  • Which page was viewed, and which pick or video was clicked.
  • The four answers you gave the finder — the relationship, the budget band, the interest and the personality.
  • Whether you are on a phone, a tablet or a desktop.
  • A country and a region, worked out from the request.
  • The random identifier from the cookie above.

What is never recorded

  • Your IP address. It is used in memory to rate-limit abuse and is never written down.
  • Your name, address, phone number or payment details.
  • Anything about what you bought. Once you click through to Amazon I cannot see what happens, only that a click left this site.

Email, if you sign up

If you give me an email address, it is stored by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), who send the emails. It is used for that and nothing else. It is never sold, rented or shared, and every email carries an unsubscribe link. Ask me and I will delete it, whether or not any law requires me to.

Who else sees any of this

  • Vercel hosts the site and processes requests.
  • Neon stores the counts described above.
  • Kit stores email addresses, only if you give one.
  • Amazon receives you when you click a product link, and sets its own cookies under its own policy. That is how the commission is attributed.
  • YouTube receives a request only if you click a video to play it. Until then nothing is loaded from them.

Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers, because none of it would be worth anything to one.

Do Not Track

Browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. ValentineWish.com does not currently respond to it, because what is collected is already anonymous and first-party. I am telling you so rather than staying silent, because California law requires sites to disclose how they treat it.

Deleting what is there

Clear the cookie and the identifier is gone from your side. To have the rows removed from mine, email cupid@valentinewish.com with the identifier, or just ask and I will remove what I can find. If you are in the EU or UK and want anything erased, ask and I will do it without arguing about whether I have to.

Changes
